Warriors wrestling falls to Watertown

The Waunakee boys and girls wrestling teams competed in Watertown on Friday, Jan 24.

In four matches, the Waunakee girls went 4-0 against Watertown. The wins totaled to 24 points for the Warriors. Kit Alsaker captured two wins over Mya Grosenick, both by fall. Ellie Lenzendorf had two wins against Alison Busler via fall.

The Waunakee boys fell in a close contest to the Watertown team. Angel Ortega (Watertown) defeated Ian Martin by a 10-3 decision. The win for Ortega put Watertown up by three points early. Gabe Metzler (157) captured the first win for Waunakee with a fall victory over Aiden Billyard. Marlon Muniz (Watertown) defeated Sebastian Mejia-Gonzalez by fall in the 165 pound weight bracket.

Collin Uebersetzig (175) had a 2:59 fall victory against Oliver Gonzalez for six points towards Waunakee’s team total. Aiden Burns (190) was defeated by Watertown’s Owen Sjoberg by fall. The next two rounds were won by Waunakee. McCoy Smith (215) won via fall against Ethan Leinstock. Jackson Lenzendorf captured a victory in the 285 weight bracket for the Warriors.

Watertown won the next two rounds in the 106 and 113 weight brackets. Mason Spear answered with a victory against Teagen Stivarius via fall in the 120 weight bracket. Connor Cutsinger (126) was defeated by Ben Logan via fall. Gibson Guralski had the final win for Waunakee coming in the 132 weight bracket. Guralski had a technical fall victory against Henry Zimmerman. Waunakee’s Braylon Davenport and Braydon Barbian lost in the final two rounds of competition.

Team scores: Watertown: 42, Waunakee: 35
