Warriors place fourth at conference meet, crown two individual championships

Friday, Feb. 6 marked an opportunity for the Waunakee Warriors' girls wrestling team to do something no Waunakee athlete has ever done before: To claim an individual championship.

Only a couple of hours later, the Warriors walked away with not one, but two individual championships at the 2025-26 Badger Conference Girls Wrestling Conference Championship at Baraboo High School.

For the Warriors, who placed fourth overall with 117 team points, according to USA Bracketing, sophomore Kit Alsaker (132 lbs) and senior Ellie Lenzendorf (185 lbs) each scored first-place finishes in their respective brackets to claim an individual conference championship.

Kit Alsaker won her first-place match by pin in four minutes and 54 seconds. This effort was fueled by back-to-back victories by pins in both her semifinal and quarterfinal matches, each coming in less than two minutes, according to USA Bracketing.

Then came Ellie Lenzendorf, the second Warrior to claim a conference title, thanks to a one-minute and 23-second pin in her first-place match. In Lenzendorf’s semifinal match, she scored a victory by pin in under three minutes.

In addition to the Warriors’ individual conference champion duo, Waunakee also saw a second-place finish from freshman Amanda Mejia (165 lbs), who scored two victories in her quarterfinal (pin) and semifinal (16-5 major decision) matches before falling in her first-place match by pin.

Other notable finishes from the Warriors include a fourth-place finish from sophomore Kiera Wilson (114 lbs), a sixth-place finish from sophomore Emily Pelzer (138 lbs) and a seventh-place finish from senior Sophia Fisher (126 lbs).

With the conference meet completed, the Waunakee Warriors girls’ wrestling team will now shift focus toward the playoffs. According to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), the Warriors will host regionals on Friday, Feb. 13. According to Waunakee Athletics, regionals will begin at 5 p.m.
