Boys, girls wrestling teams defeated by Beaver Dam

Both the boys and girls wrestling teams fell short by slim margins against Beaver Dam on Friday, Jan. 31. Kit Alsaker and Ellie Lenzendorf were the lone victors on the girls team, totaling 12 team points to Beaver Dam’s 18 points. The boys team fell to Beaver Dam by three points.

The Warriors started the event with three consecutive victories from Brett Farrell, Mason Spear, and Gibson Guralski. In the 113 weight bracket, Farrell defeated Liam Cirfus by a 4:42 technical fall. Spear (120) defeated Dalton Hensley by fall in 48 seconds. Guralski capped off the three match streak with a major decision over Landon Johnson in the 126 weight bracket.

Connor Cutsinger (132) and Payton Schutz (138) were both defeated by fall against their Beaver Dam opponents. Braydon Barbian (144) and Gabe Metzler (150) put Waunakee back in the win column. Barbian had a 14-4 major decision victory over Liam Gruenewald in the 144 weight bracket. Metzler had a dominant 43 second fall victory over David Zaldivar.

 

Beaver Dam won the next four rounds of competition with wins against Ian Martin, Sebastian Mejia-Gonzalez, Collin Uebersetzig, and Sawyer Ellis. McCoy Smith and Jackson Lenzendorf rounded out the event with wins for Waunakee. Smith beat Mason Grow in the 215 weight bracket by a 5-2 tiebreaker. Lenzendorf (285) had a fall victory over Malekhi Richter-Horton.

Beaver Dam finished the event with the slight edge of 37-34 over Waunakee.
