Seesaw affair goes Watertown's way in conference wrestling dual meet win over Waunakee

Every match but one was decided by forfeit or pin.

Unfortunately for Waunakee, Watertown won five matches and was awarded three forfeits in a 48-33 Badger East Conference dual meet victory over the Warriors.

The night started with Waunakee’s Jayden Freie earning a 7-1 decision at 126. A forfeit at 132 extended the Warriors’ lead to 9-0, and Coltan Nechvatal pinned Marlon Muniz in 1:10 at 138 to make it 15-0.

That’s when Watertown got on a roll, as the Goslings secured pins at 145, 152, 160, 170 and 182 to rally for a 30-15 advantage.

The Warriors got back on track with three pins in a row, starting with Kaden Hooker at 195. He caught Tyler Haberstetzer in 1:55, as Jack Schweitzer followed up with a 55-second pin of Noah Dominguez.

At 285, Waunakee’s Jackson Lenzendorf finished the Warriors’ scoring with a 2:13 pin of Aaron Finn, as Waunakee climbed back on top 33-30.

A trio of forfeits in Watertown’s favor gave the Goslings the dual.

After the Christmas break, the Warriors will head to the Lax La Crosse Center for an invitational tournament. On Friday, Jan. 7, Waunakee gets back on the mat at home against Beaver Dam.
